Ever wondered what paradise hidden in the mountains looks like? Right before you is the entrance to Thien Canh Son Cave. Before we venture inside, let me tell you a little about this special place.

Thien Canh Son Cave is located in Bai Tu Long Bay. This bay is an extension of Ha Long Bay. More precisely, it’s part of the Cong Do Island Conservation Area. The island itself is about 25 kilometers from Bai Chay Harbor.

The cave wasn’t always known as Thien Canh Son Cave. Initially, it was called Grass Cave. This was due to the abundant green vegetation around it. But once its beauty was discovered, it was renamed Thien Canh Son. That’s Vietnamese for paradise hidden in the mountains.

Now, the path to Thien Canh Son Cave involves climbing about 400 stone steps. The steps are of different sizes and shapes. You will also notice the pleasant atmosphere. This is created by the beautiful green forest vegetation all around.

The entrance to Thien Canh Son Cave is fairly small. You might have to crouch a little to avoid hitting your head. Once inside, you will descend into the first chamber. The highlight here is the tens of thousands of gleaming stalactites. They hang down from the cave’s roof. They look like the dome of a Baroque theater. Imagine hundreds of hanging lights.

What sets Thien Canh Son Cave apart is the stalactites. They have formed over thousands of years. Geologic activities have given them unique shapes. You might see flowers monkeys seals chandeliers or lotus flowers.

Thien Canh Son Cave has three chambers. It is smaller and less popular than Sung Sot Cave. However, its beauty and majesty are unparalleled. It takes about 35 to 45 minutes to explore this cave fully.

After touring the Thien Canh Son Cave, you can relax on the beach. There is a fine white sandy beach under the limestone islet. You could also try kayaking or swimming. At the highest point of the cave, you get a panoramic view of Bai Tu Long Bay.

There aren’t any mysterious stories about the formation of Thien Canh Son Cave. It was formed by the erosion and deposition of limestones over millions of years. Water erodes calcium crystals in limestone. The crystals then combine on the ceiling and ground to create stalagmites and stalactites.

Remember to bring only essential items. Wear comfortable clothing and sports shoes. A torch might be useful because it can get dark in some areas. A helmet is recommended for your protection. Water and light snacks are also a good idea.

Thien Canh Son Cave is a must see. Exploring its gorgeous surroundings enhances your spiritual ideals. I hope you enjoy your visit to this paradise hidden in the mountains.
