Established in 2010, the town of Vàm Láng whispers tales of transformation. Vàm Láng sits on the eastern edge of Gò Công Đông district, nestled beside the Soài Rạp River. This river marks a boundary, separating the bustling energy of Ho Chi Minh City from the tranquil province of Tiền Giang. Vàm Láng wasn’t always a town. Before 2010, it was simply a part of the larger Vàm Láng commune within Gò Công district. A significant shift occurred in 1979 when Gò Công district was divided. This division birthed two new districts: Gò Công Đông and Gò Công Tây. Vàm Láng found itself within the newly formed Gò Công Đông. Then, on September 30, 2010, Vàm Láng officially transitioned from commune to town. This change involved a significant land adjustment. Approximately 600 hectares and nearly 14,000 residents from the original commune became the heart of the new town. The remaining land and residents of Vàm Láng commune merged with the neighboring Kiểng Phước commune. Today, Vàm Láng town covers an area of 6 square kilometers. As of 2024, over 15,900 people call this riverside town home. Vàm Láng also plays a role in connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Tiền Giang province. A proposed ferry route, Cần Giờ – Vàm Láng, aims to streamline travel between these two locations. This route will significantly reduce travel time, offering a more efficient way to experience the beauty and charm of the Mekong Delta region.
