The museum reopened in 1961. It initially occupied a modest space within the Opera House. It was only accessible through guided tours. Söhnlein’s ingenuity transformed the lack of space into a virtue. He organised regular special exhibitions in the Opera House foyer. His dedication ensured that the museum continued to thrive despite its physical limitations.
Eventually the museum found a new home in the Schauspielhaus. In 1993 the museum opened its doors in its current location. Rudolf Schulz another stage designer redesigned the permanent exhibition. The current exhibition is spread across three floors. It aims to provide a visually stimulating experience much like a live performance.
