Here, artists find their footing. For over 30 years, Theaterhaus Berlin has been a vital hub for Berlin’s independent performing arts scene. It acts as both a production center and a networking platform.

Theaterhaus Berlin’s story began in 1992. It started as the “Theaterprobenhaus” in Rosenthaler Straße. The Bezirksamt Berlin-Mitte founded it. Its goal was to support freelance theater makers. It offered affordable rehearsal spaces.

After a few temporary locations, the Theaterhaus found its home in 2009. It moved to a former school building on Wallstraße. This location is in the historic Fischerinsel area. It sits on the border between Mitte and Kreuzberg.

In 2021, Theaterhaus Berlin expanded. It added a second location in Schöneweide. This was the former Hochschule für Schauspielkunst Ernst Busch building. From then on, it was known as Theaterhaus Berlin. It now has two locations: Mitte and Schöneweide.

Theaterhaus Berlin provides affordable rehearsal spaces. These spaces cater to various needs. Performance artists, acrobats, dancers, and theater groups use them. The facility serves both local and international artists.

The Schöneweide location is undergoing reconstruction. Once finished, it will offer a total of 34 studios. These studios range in size. They go from 52 square meters to 218 square meters.

Kulturinitiative Förderband gGmbH operates Theaterhaus Berlin. The Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion supports it.
