Feel the wind whisper secrets as we stand before The Wheel of Brisbane. This giant Ferris wheel isn’t just a ride. It’s a time capsule a testament to Brisbane’s spirit.

The Wheel of Brisbane opened in 2008. It marked two significant anniversaries. The 20th anniversary of World Expo 88 was celebrated. So was the 150th anniversary of Queensland’s statehood. The wheel stands tall at the northern entrance to South Bank Parklands. This is the transformed site of World Expo 88. It sits by the Brisbane River.

Before finding its home at South Bank The Wheel of Brisbane had a different life. It was built in 2006 for Sea World. Then it was known as the Sea World Wheel. It stood there for a year. Later it was dismantled and moved to its current location.

Imagine the engineering feat. Moving a structure of this magnitude. It’s a story of resilience. It shows the enduring appeal of The Wheel of Brisbane.

Each of its 42 air-conditioned capsules holds up to six adults and two children. A full ride takes about twelve minutes. You’ll enjoy approximately four rotations. From the top you have panoramic 360 degree views.

The Wheel of Brisbane wasn’t immune to challenges. The 2011 Brisbane floods caused damage. In 2015 the wheel underwent major maintenance. Every capsule was removed. They were overhauled.

Today The Wheel of Brisbane proudly displays a Seven Network logo. It’s a symbol of its enduring place in the city’s landscape. It’s a constant reminder of the city’s vibrant past and promising future.

More than just a ride The Wheel of Brisbane is a landmark. It’s a captivating experience. It offers breathtaking views and fascinating history. It’s a must-see for any visitor to this dynamic city. Enjoy the ride.
