The West Bengal University of Health Sciences, established on January 1, 2003, aimed to standardize and elevate medical education across the state. Before WBUHS existed, a chaotic system prevailed. Different state medical colleges were affiliated with various universities. This led to inconsistencies in teaching, evaluation, and even the recognition of graduates. A need for uniformity was clear. Stakeholders in medical education recognized the urgent need for a centralized body to oversee medical education. The West Bengal University of Health Sciences was the answer. Born from the West Bengal Act XIII of 2002, WBUHS quickly grew. It became the central authority for medical, AYUSH, paramedical, dental, nursing, and pharmacy colleges across West Bengal.
