The Wellmont Theatre hosted Broadway shows, plays, and other live performances. In 1929, The Wellmont Theatre transitioned into a movie house. This marked a significant shift in its role, catering to the growing popularity of cinema. By 1941, The Wellmont Theatre was under the management of Warner Bros. Circuit Management Corp. This era saw a flourishing of film screenings, entertaining audiences with the latest Hollywood releases. Decades later, in the 1970s, The Wellmont Theatre underwent a major transformation. It was triplexed, dividing the grand space into three smaller auditoriums. The main entrance was moved to the former emergency exit on Seymour Street. The original lobby, once a bustling gathering place, was converted into a diner. Sadly, in 2006, The Wellmont Theatre closed its doors. It seemed like the end of an era for this historic landmark. However, a glimmer of hope emerged in 2008. New owners purchased The Wellmont Theatre, embarking on a mission to revive its former glory. As part of the renovation, the triplexing was removed. The Wellmont Theatre returned to its original single-screen format. This restoration aimed to recapture the grandeur of the theatre’s early days. On November 1, 2008, The Wellmont Theatre celebrated its grand reopening. It now functions as a concert venue, hosting a diverse range of musical performances.
