Reaching for the sky The Torch pierces Dubai’s skyline. This isn’t just a building. It’s a statement. A testament to ambition and ingenuity.
The Torch also known as the Marina Torch or Dubai Torch Tower is a residential skyscraper in Dubai Marina. At its completion in 2011 it was the tallest residential building globally. It boasts 86 floors and stands 352 meters tall. The original plan called for 74 floors but the design changed. The developer Select Group took over from Al Rashideen Trading Company. They amended the design causing delays and requiring approval from Dubai Municipality.
The Torch’s design is striking. Its unique swirled top inspired by a flaming torch is unforgettable. Inside the building is equally impressive. Luxurious apartments feature marble and tile floors. Amenities include a swimming pool a gym and even a children’s play area. The building also has six retail units for residents and guests.
Unfortunately The Torch has experienced several significant fires. The first in 2015 was particularly devastating. It started on a balcony and spread rapidly. Luckily residents were evacuated but many apartments were damaged. The fire caused extensive damage from the 50th floor upwards. The building underwent extensive repairs and renovations. Despite these setbacks The Torch remains a popular residential tower.
The Torch is more than a building. It’s a symbol of Dubai’s relentless pursuit of progress. It’s a bold declaration of modern architecture and ambition. Yet its history also reminds us of the challenges and vulnerabilities of even the most impressive structures. It stands a testament to resilience. It remains an iconic landmark in the heart of Dubai Marina. It’s a sight you won’t soon forget.
