Perched high above Lake Wakatipu, The Remarkables stand tall. These jagged peaks are more than just a pretty backdrop. They are a playground for adventurers and a place of profound beauty.

The Remarkables is a mountain range in Otago. The Māori name for The Remarkables is Kawarau. The mountain range more than lives up to its name. It rises sharply from the lake creating a remarkable view.

Did you know The Remarkables run almost directly north to south? It is one of only two mountain ranges in the world to do so.

The Remarkables were named by Alexander Garvie in 1857-58. He chose the name for the range’s serrated peaks. Before that, they were known as the Crosscuts for the same reason.

The highest point of The Remarkables is Single Cone. It rises to an elevation of 2,319 meters. The adjacent Hector Mountains culminate in Mount Tūwhakarōria.

In winter, The Remarkables transform into a skifield. The Remarkables skifield has skiing and other winter activities. It boasts sun-soaked runs and breathtaking views. The ski area covers 220 hectares. Eight lifts serve the area. There are four chairlifts and four magic carpets. The terrain is 30% beginner, 40% intermediate, and 30% advanced. The average annual snowfall is 3.67 meters. Snowmaking ensures good conditions.

The Remarkables is part of NZSki. This also includes Coronet Peak and Mt Hutt. A new lodge base building was inaugurated in 2014. A new 6-seater express detachable chairlift was installed. Another was installed in 2020 to replace an older model.

The Remarkables is gaining an international reputation. Daring skiers and riders come to push their limits. Remarks Parks welcomes all abilities. It is designed for mini-shredders to aspiring pros.

The Burton Stash is at The Remarkables. It is a concept park designed by Jake Burton. It is one of only six in the world. It is the only one in the Southern Hemisphere. The Stash uses the natural terrain. It is constructed from organic elements.

Visitors consistently praise The Remarkables. They marvel at the sheer beauty. They describe it as one of the most impressive landscapes. Skiers rave about the snow quality. Hikers appreciate the stunning views.

The Remarkables are easily accessible from Queenstown. It is approximately a 40-minute drive. Regular shuttle services operate in winter.

As you stand here, take a moment. Breathe in the crisp mountain air. Feel the sun on your face. Remember the story of The Remarkables. A place of beauty, adventure, and freedom.
