“What stories could these walls tell?” Imagine Philip Moore arriving here. It was the late 1700s. He came down the Ohio River with his family. They landed at Old Alexandria. That was the first village in this area. Soon after, Moore started building this stone house.

This is The Philip Moore House. It stands as a testament to early American life. Moore was a Revolutionary War veteran. He chose this spot to build his family’s home.

During those early days, Methodist Circuit Riders visited. These traveling ministers held meetings here. It is believed Bishop Francis Asbury led the first organized religious service in Scioto County right here at The Philip Moore House.

The house’s strength comes from the local sandstone. The windows have a keystone design. Near The Philip Moore House, you can find the gravestones of Moore. Several of his family members rest in a small cemetery on a nearby hill.

Over the years, The Philip Moore House changed owners many times. It even served as a church at one point. In 1973, Dr. Louis Chaboudy bought the house. He began restoring it to its original look. Steve Hayes purchased it in 2005.

Today, The Philip Moore House serves as a historic site. It hosts events for visitors. It is a gathering place for the community.

Think about the families who lived here. Consider the religious services held within these walls. The Philip Moore House stands as a symbol of resilience. It connects us to the past. It reminds us of the determination of early settlers.
