Right here stands The Movement Church International. It is a beacon of faith and community. What began as a vision in New York City has expanded globally.
The Movement Church International’s roots trace back to the 1980s. It started with a commitment to cities and prayer. Mac Pier, founder of Concerts of Prayer, moved to New York in 1984. He noticed that only a small fraction of Manhattan residents attended Christian churches. In response, organizations united to pray for a spiritual awakening. By 1988, the Concerts of Prayer Movement emerged.
Over three decades, Concerts of Prayer Greater New York grew. It became a network of 2,000 churches across the city. New churches emerged. Efforts were made to develop church planting leaders. In 2003, leaders like Tim Keller formed The Church Multiplication Alliance. This initiative led to a 300% increase in churches throughout Manhattan.
This growth of leaders created a need for resources. The New York Leadership Center was established in 2008. It connected Christian leaders in various sectors. This work continues today in New York City. The Movement Church International is part of this ongoing story.
What began in New York City expanded worldwide. The New York City Leadership Center evolved. It took on both a local focus as LEAD.NYC and an expanded focus as MOVEMENT.ORG. The first Movement Day event was held in NYC in 2010. It facilitated relationships and collaboration. Movement Day events continue to inspire city gospel movements globally. MOVEMENT CITIES supports local leaders to launch gospel movements. These movements promote spiritual and social well-being.
The Movement Church International holds firm tenets of faith. They believe in the Bible as the inspired Word of God. They believe in one God. This God exists eternally in three persons. These persons are the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The church believes in Jesus Christ’s deity. They recognize His virgin birth and sinless life. They acknowledge His miracles and atoning death. The Movement Church International believes in His resurrection and ascension. They anticipate His return in power and glory.
The Movement Church International believes regeneration by the Holy Spirit is essential. This is for the salvation of lost people. The church’s mandate is to fulfill the Great Commission. They believe in the Holy Spirit’s present ministry. This empowers followers to live godly lives. The church believes in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost. The saved will have a resurrection of life. The lost will have a resurrection of damnation. They believe in the spiritual unity of believers in Jesus Christ.
The Movement Church International stands as a testament to faith. It embodies community and global impact. It began with prayer and continues with a vision for transformation.
