Ready to find a bargain? The Mills at Jersey Gardens is calling your name. It is New Jersey’s largest outlet mall. The Mills at Jersey Gardens opened on October 21 1999. Many shoppers still call it Jersey Gardens.

This shopping mecca is in Elizabeth New Jersey. It sits conveniently off the New Jersey Turnpike. The Mills at Jersey Gardens is close to Newark Liberty International Airport. You can reach it in just 30 minutes from Midtown Manhattan.

Originally Glimcher Realty Trust developed it. Later Simon Property Group took over. Simon owns many outlet malls. They renamed it The Mills at Jersey Gardens. This integrated it into their “Mills” portfolio.

Before The Mills at Jersey Gardens existed a landfill occupied this space. Extensive cleanup was necessary before construction. In 1998 plans emerged for a 1.3 million square foot mall. Its location in an Urban Enterprise Zone was a key feature. This offered a reduced sales tax. New Yorkers found this appealing. They were used to paying higher rates. Some items like food have an extra Elizabeth City Franchise Fee.

Inside The Mills at Jersey Gardens expect a shopper’s paradise. There are 230 stores and restaurants. A direct exit from the New Jersey Turnpike makes access easy. This cost 130 million dollars. Property tax payments covered it.

Public transit is also an option. The NJ Transit 111 bus connects to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York City. This makes The Mills at Jersey Gardens accessible to everyone.

The Mills at Jersey Gardens continues to evolve. An expansion is in the works. It will add 537119 square feet. This expansion includes big box stores. Restaurants and an outdoor dining pavilion are planned. A seven story parking garage will add 3313 spaces.

The Mills at Jersey Gardens offers tax-free shopping on clothes and shoes. This is a major draw. It features top outlets like Saks Fifth Avenue Off Fifth. You will also find Neiman Marcus Last Call. Other stores include Michael Kors Coach True Religion and Guess. It is also home to America’s largest Tommy Hilfiger store. There is also a 20 screen AMC Theatres with IMAX.

So jump off the NJ Transit 111. Experience the tax free shopping. Enjoy a movie. Find a great deal. The Mills at Jersey Gardens has something for everyone.
