In the heart of Vista, California, stands The Life Church of North County. It’s a place where lives are transformed and faith comes alive. The Life Church wasn’t always the vibrant hub it is today. It began humbly in 1985 as a small Bible study group of just seven people, led by Pastor Stephen Johnson. They met in the recreation room of a retirement mobile home park. Pastor Stephen, then 29 and working towards his theology degree, poured his heart into this small community. The early days were challenging. Services were held in unusual locations, including the empty bar of a local motel. Imagine picking up cigarette butts and clearing half-empty glasses before Sunday school could begin. The Life Church of North County, then known as His Church, eventually moved to a warehouse in an industrial park in Escondido. Against all odds, they petitioned the city council for a permit to use the space, a bold move reminiscent of David and Goliath. Miraculously, the city agreed, and the funds came in to renovate the warehouse. The Life Church of North County began to thrive. The once cold and dark space was transformed by the dedication of the congregation, a diverse mix of people from all walks of life. Pastor Stephen’s leadership, coupled with the guidance of his pastor, Dr. Mark T. Barclay, further fueled the church’s growth. The Life Church of North County continued to expand its reach. It established sister churches across the United States and around the globe, from Okinawa, Japan, to Atlanta, Georgia. The church also birthed Word Bible College, a testament to its commitment to training future ministers. The Life Church of North County, now located in Vista, continues to serve the community with its vibrant services on Sundays at 10 am and 6 pm, and Wednesday nights at 7 pm. It’s a place where you’ll find encouraging worship music and truthful teaching, a testament to the small Bible study group that started it all.
