Ever wondered where you can find the oldest human statues in the world? Here at The Jordan Museum, we unravel Jordan’s rich tapestry of history.

The Jordan Museum stands as a testament to Jordan’s cultural heritage. Established in 2014, it’s the country’s largest museum. It showcases some of Jordan’s most significant archaeological finds.

Inside The Jordan Museum, prepare to be amazed by the Dead Sea Scrolls. The Copper Scroll is part of this extraordinary collection. Also prepare to be amazed by the 9000-year-old ‘Ain Ghazal statues. These statues rank among the oldest human statues ever crafted.

The Jordan Museum presents artifacts from various prehistoric and antique sites across Jordan. The collections are arranged chronologically. This allows visitors to journey through time. The museum also boasts lecture halls and outdoor exhibitions. A library and a conservation center are available to support research. Children’s activities also take place here.

Queen Rania spearheaded the museum’s establishment. The Jordan Museum stands as the only museum in Jordan to implement modern artifact-preserving technologies.

Originally, the Jordan Archaeological Museum resided atop Amman’s Citadel Hill since 1951. As the collection grew, a new, modern space became essential. Thus, construction for The Jordan Museum began in 2009.

Located in the Ras al-Ein area near downtown Amman, The Jordan Museum is easily accessible. It’s near major archaeological sites like the Roman Theater and Amman Citadel.

The museum’s collection spans 1.5 million years. It includes animal bones and the ‘Ain Ghazal lime plaster statues. The Dead Sea Scrolls and a reproduction of the Mesha Stele are also highlights.

The ‘Ain Ghazal statues originated from a major Neolithic village discovered in 1981. The Dead Sea Copper Scroll lists hidden gold, silver and vessels. These items were likely taken from the Temple in Jerusalem around 68 CE.

The Mesha Stele is a black basalt stone. King Mesha of Moab erected it. The stele commemorates his building projects and victory against the Israelites. It is one of the most important direct accounts of biblical history.

Other notable artifacts include the Balu’a Stele and a marble head of the Greek goddess Tyche.

The Jordan Museum isn’t just a place to observe. It’s a center for education and research. The museum also offers special rates for students. Admission is free for children and people with disabilities. Interactive exhibits especially designed for youngsters are located upstairs.

As you leave The Jordan Museum, consider the journey through time you’ve undertaken. From ancient statues to biblical accounts, Jordan’s story is etched in every artifact.
