Craving an escape to a tropical rainforest? Here at The Green Planet in Dubai, that’s precisely what awaits. This biodome recreates the enthralling world of the tropical forest. It houses over 3000 plants and animals. The Green Planet offers an immersive excursion into the tropics right here in Dubai.
The Green Planet is the region’s first bio-dome. It is located in City Walk. The Green Planet functions as a real ecosystem. It is housed in a vertical glass structure designed like folded origami.
Shall we explore the four levels? There is the Canopy. Then, the Mid Story. Next, the Forest Floor. And finally, the Flooded Rainforest.
At the very center stands an artificial tree. It is 82-foot-tall. This creates a thriving environment for the wildlife. An indoor waterfall connects to it.
We begin our journey in the Flooded Rainforest. This level is a cavern of aquariums. Here, we find unique amphibian and marine animals. Look out for arapaima and Arowana. You might spot fishes, tortoises, and stingrays. These are typically found in underwater tropical environments.
Now, let’s ascend to the roof of the treetop. We’ll take a lift to reach the Canopy. It’s an astounding 30 to 45 meters above the ground. The canopy forms the roof of the rainforest. It provides a panoramic view from the treetop. The ecosystem absorbs most of the sunlight here. We might encounter parrots and macaws roaming freely. There is also an intriguing exhibit of bees. Colorful butterflies and leaf-cutter ants are behind a perspex wall.
That majestic tree you see is 25 meters tall. Vines and dripping figs wrap around it. Soon they will completely cover the tree. This will create a verdant environment for tropical species. They can thrive and sustain in the world’s first largest fabricated tree.
Let’s descend to the midstory floor. You can use the staircase. Or the fun wooden bridges and rope walkways. Here, you can spot vibrant South American toucans. Parakeets and shy nocturnal porcupines also live here. The leaves are big to absorb sunlight trickling from the canopy.
Further down is the forest floor. A huge cascading waterfall marks the way. This floor is dark, quiet, and humid. It exhibits diverse reptiles, insects, and amphibians. They are safely behind glass enclosures. Get an up-close view of sloths. You may see sugar gliders, frogs, and tarantulas. Spiders, lizards, vipers, a green boa, and an iguana also live here. The panther chameleon and tokay gecko may also be spotted.
