Thousands of worshippers gather weekly at The Evangelical Church in Abu Dhabi. A testament to faith and tolerance this church boasts a remarkable history. From humble beginnings in the 1970s it’s a story of growth and unwavering devotion. The Evangelical Church’s journey began not in a grand building but in a small room. Pioneering Evangelicals like Dr Pat and Dr Marian Kennedy laid the groundwork. Their compassion at Al Ain’s Oasis Hospital now Kanad Hospital earned them the respect of the Emirati people. Their work inspired others. Carl and Barbara Sherbeck members of the Evangelical Alliance Mission TEAM moved to Abu Dhabi. They fostered strong relationships with the UAE government. Bible studies in English and Arabic quickly outgrew their home. A warehouse then became their meeting place but soon proved too small. The UAE government generously granted land for a worship center. The TEAM Center served the Evangelical community for fourteen years. A new chapter unfolded. His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan then Abu Dhabi’s Crown Prince granted a new plot of land. Construction began in 1992 across from the British School Al Khubairat. In 1994 The Evangelical Church held its first services. The congregation blossomed growing from hundreds to thousands. Expansions and renovations followed. In 2019 The Evangelical Church received official legal status. The Department of Community Development licensed it as a place of worship. Today The Evangelical Church Abu Dhabi stands as a beacon of faith. It’s a place of worship song prayer and fellowship for thousands of Christians weekly. It’s a symbol of the UAE’s commitment to religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence. The Evangelical Church’s story is a tribute to the generosity of the UAE’s rulers.
