The Crefeld School

Founded as The Miquon Upper School, The Crefeld School carries a unique legacy. The Crefeld School began its journey in 1970. Arnold Greenberg, a teacher at The Miquon School, established The Crefeld School. He wanted to offer a continuation of progressive education. Initially, the school bore the name “Miquon Upper School”. This was a nod to its connection with The Miquon School. However, they were always independent entities. To clarify this distinction, the name eventually changed to The Crefeld School. The school caters to students from seventh to twelfth grade. Located in Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia, The Crefeld School provides a haven for approximately 100 students. These students come from a diverse range of 31 school districts. Some travel from locations as far as Hockessin, Delaware, and Fallsington, Pennsylvania. The school also offers a unique program. Students can graduate by exhibition, showcasing their learning in a distinctive way. A weekly community service component fosters civic responsibility. The Crefeld School prides itself on its small class sizes, typically ranging from 8 to 14 students. This intimate setting allows for a student-teacher ratio of 5:1. The Crefeld School’s commitment to the arts shines through its strong visual arts program, which includes a glassblowing studio. It also houses vibrant theater and music programs.
