Curiosity sparked within the community when President Thomas S. Monson announced the Harare Zimbabwe Temple in 2016. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a growing presence in Zimbabwe since the 1930s, finally had its own temple. This marked a significant moment for the 41,000 members in Zimbabwe, many of whom previously endured a 14-hour drive to Johannesburg for temple worship. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Harare stands as a testament to their faith. Located on Enterprise Road in the Highlands neighborhood, the temple grounds also include a stake center. President Russell M. Nelson himself visited this site in 2018. The temple’s design, unveiled in 2020, features a single spire rising above the main entrance, with accompanying Church facilities. The groundbreaking ceremony, held in December 2020, was attended by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who commended the Church’s contribution to the nation’s development. Elder Edward Dube, a native Zimbabwean, presided over the ceremony, emphasizing the temple’s significance not just for local members but for Latter-day Saints worldwide. The Harare Zimbabwe Temple stands as a beacon of faith and a symbol of the enduring spirit of the Latter-day Saints community.
