Chugga chugga chugga. That’s the sound of Cape Town’s history. Welcome to The Blue Train Park.
Right here before you stands a miniature marvel. The Blue Train Park is more than just a train ride. It’s a vibrant piece of Cape Town’s seaside past. For over sixty years this little blue train has been delighting children. It’s a beloved landmark less than 25 meters from the Atlantic Ocean. Lions Head Signal Hill and Table Mountain form a breathtaking backdrop.
Johnny Peters a man who ran the train for over 30 years is a legend here. He even once had a run-in with the son of President John Vorster. Can you imagine reprimanding a young boy for putting stones on the tracks only to discover his father was the President? The stories whispered on this windswept coast are countless.
The Blue Train isn’t just a train ride though. It’s a whole park of fun. There’s a dirt bike track a mini skate park and even a zip line. Kids can climb rocks play on jungle gyms and even enjoy a soccer game on the astro turf pitch. It’s 10 000 square meters of seaside fun.
The Blue Train Park isn’t only for children. It offers amazing views. You can see the ocean Lions Head Signal Hill and Table Mountain all at once. What other park offers that? It’s a place for families to relax. Parents can watch their children play while enjoying the fresh sea air and spectacular scenery.
Did you know this park has a strong history of charity? Funds raised have supported local communities for years. The Rotary Club of Sea Point is a current beneficiary. The park truly gives back to its community. Even ten Spekboom trees indigenous to South Africa were planted here in 2018. In 2015 an outdoor ice rink even opened here. Making it an even more unique park.
The Blue Train Park is a Cape Town gem. It’s a place of memories a testament to simple pleasures and a reminder that even the smallest train can have the biggest impact. So take a ride. Make a memory. And don’t forget to wave to the friendly conductor.
