The institute’s focus was always on providing hands-on, career-oriented education. The goal was to prepare students for entry-level positions in some of California’s most exciting industries. The Art Institute of California – San Diego was initially a for-profit institution under the ownership of Education Management Corporation. In 2017, facing financial difficulties and declining enrollment, the Art Institute, along with 30 other Art Institute schools, was sold to Dream Center Education.
