Amidst the vibrant tapestry of Accra, stands The Apostolic Church Ghana. This church’s story intertwines with the Welsh revival of 1904-1905. This revival ignited a Pentecostal fervor that spread across the globe, reaching the shores of the Gold Coast, now known as Ghana. The Apostolic Church Ghana traces its roots to this powerful movement. In the 1930s, a group of Christians in Asamankese, a small town in Ghana’s Eastern Region, connected with the Apostolic Church in Bradford, England. This connection led to the arrival of Pastor George Perfect in 1935. Peter Anim Newman, a key figure in this early group, was later ordained as a pastor. The Apostolic Church Ghana began to take shape. The church’s journey wasn’t without its challenges. Doctrinal differences arose, leading to a split in 1938. Part of the group, led by Newman, formed the Christ Apostolic Church Ghana. The Apostolic Church Ghana continued to grow and evolve, establishing its headquarters in Cape Coast in 1941. Then, in 1984, the headquarters moved to Accra, reflecting the church’s expansion and influence. The Apostolic Church Ghana has played a significant role in the spread of Pentecostalism in Ghana and beyond. It has planted churches in various districts across Ghana and established mission fields in other countries. It has also been instrumental in the formation of other Pentecostal denominations in Ghana. Today, The Apostolic Church Ghana stands as a testament to the enduring power of faith and the impact of the Welsh revival. It continues to serve as a spiritual home for many, carrying on the legacy of its founders and the Pentecostal movement that shaped its identity.
