Born from the fiery spirit of the 1904-1905 Welsh revival The Apostolic Church Ghana stands before you. Its story is one of faith resilience and unwavering dedication. This Accra assembly is a testament to the global reach of Pentecostalism. It’s a powerful symbol of spiritual awakening in Ghana.
The church’s roots trace back to the remarkable Welsh revival. This revival ignited a fervent belief in the five-fold ministry and the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit. The Apostolic doctrine flourished. Daniel Powell and Jones Williams were ordained as apostle and prophet.
Pentecostalism’s spread reached the Gold Coast now Ghana. Faith Tabernacle of Nigeria introduced the faith to Asamankese. A group led by Peter Anim Newman sought guidance from the Apostolic Church in Bradford England. Pastor George Perfect visited in 1935. Peter Newman Anim was ordained. James and Sophia McKeown arrived as missionaries.
Doctrinal differences led to a split. Newman formed the Christ Apostolic Church Ghana in 1938. The Apostolic Church moved its headquarters to Cape Coast in 1941. Pastors Asomaning Anaman Bimpong Boateng and Frimpong supported McKeown.
In 1944 a branch opened in Accra under Pastor Anaman. It expanded rapidly. By 1984 the headquarters relocated to Accra. Missionaries Sercombe McKeown Seaborne and Hammond strengthened the church. Copp Rosser Johnson Cawthorne and Williams also contributed.
A further split occurred in 1953. McKeown’s followers formed the Gold Coast Apostolic Church. This later became the Church of Pentecost in 1962. The Apostolic Church Ghana also gave rise to the Divine Healers Church the Apostolic Reformed Church and the New Covenant Apostolic Church.
The church boasts 1500 local churches. It established mission fields in Togo Benin Burkina Faso Cote D’Ivoire and the United States. Apostle A. Ofori-Addo was the first Ghanaian Field chairman. In 1985 the church gained autonomy. Apostle Ofori-Addo became its first president.
Today The Apostolic Church Ghana continues to thrive. Its administrative areas expanded from 36 to 50 between 2011 and 2014. Its financial capacity strengthened. The Apostolic Resource Conference and Retreat Centre is under construction. Training programs boost capacity.
Apostle Dr. Aaron Ami-Narh leads the church. Apostle Frederick Yaw Agyeman is the Vice President. Dr. Daniel Bardoom Kissi serves as General Secretary. The Apostolic Church Ghana stands as a beacon of faith a testament to perseverance and a vibrant force in Ghana’s spiritual landscape. It’s a place where the spirit of the Welsh revival still burns bright.
