Established in 1986, the Texas Military Forces Museum opened its doors in 1992. Brigadier General John C.L. Scribner’s vision shaped this institution. His dedication ensured the preservation of Texas military history. The museum’s mission is clear. It aims to tell the story of the Texas Military Forces from 1823 to the present. It supports the mission of the Texas Military Forces. The museum honors veterans and educates citizens. It promotes esprit de corps and inspires youth to serve.

Step inside to discover a vast collection. The 45000-square-foot space features indoor and outdoor galleries. There are 24 major exhibits. Over 10000 artifacts await your gaze. Thirty-six vehicles stand as silent witnesses. Eight dioramas recreate historical moments. Sixteen macro environments immerse you in different eras. Over 50 uniformed mannequins bring history to life. The library and archive house over 10000 books and 20000 photos. These resources are available for research.

The museum is divided into six sections. Four indoor galleries showcase different periods. An outdoor gallery displays impressive military hardware. A conference center hosts events and gatherings.

Armor Row and Artillery Park beckon outside. More than 36 tanks and artillery pieces stand on display. Additional aircraft and helicopters dot Camp Mabry’s parade field.

Gallery 1 covers 1823 to 1859. It explores the birth of the Texas Militia and the Texas Revolution. The Republic of Texas and the Mexican War are highlighted. The Texas Rangers in the Texas-Indian Wars also feature here.

Gallery 2 spans 1860 to 1918. The American Civil War and the re-establishment of Texas Military Forces are examined. The Texas Rangers’ continued role in the Texas-Indian Wars is showcased. The origins of the Texas Army National Guard are detailed. The Spanish-American War, Bandit War, and Mexican Border War get their due. World War I concludes this gallery.

Gallery 3 covers 1919 to the present. The period between the World Wars is explored. World War II and the Cold War feature prominently. The creation of the Texas Air National Guard is highlighted. The 49th Armored Division is honored. Texas and United States missions are remembered. The War on Terror brings the story to the present day.

The Great Hall displays iconic artifacts. The Twin Sisters cannons stand guard. Relics from the Lost Battalion evoke their sacrifice. Captured enemy equipment tells tales of victory. Tanks like the M4A3 105 Sherman and M3A1 Stuart dominate the space. Aircraft such as the F-16 Cockpit Egress Trainer capture the imagination. Weapons like the Hotchkiss M1914 are also displayed.

The Hall of Honor recognizes distinguished members. It also serves as a conference center.
