Picture this a bustling Accra street corner near the Shell filling station. You stand before Tesano Baptist Church. This isn’t just any church. It’s a vibrant hub of faith a place with a rich history.

Tesano Baptist Church wasn’t always the impressive building you see today. It started modestly. In 1972 the Ghana Baptist Mission acquired the land. It became the Accra Baptist Centre. This center was more than a church. It was a community space. It offered a library film screenings games and literacy classes. Even a recording studio existed for the Baptist Hour radio broadcast.

Calvary Baptist Church used the center in its early days. In 1974 Calvary moved to Kwame Nkrumah Circle. This left a void. A small group of dedicated individuals including Missionary Kathe Browne Rev Carruthers and Pastor Prince Bediako stepped in. They began Bible studies and worship services right here.

Miss Lovan Nadeen initially directed the Baptist Centre. Rev Enoch T Quartey took over in 1974 becoming the first Ghanaian director. He played a crucial role in nurturing this group into a fully fledged church. He even started a nursery school on the premises. This later grew into a well-respected primary school in the community.

Sunday morning services began in 1975. The early years were challenging. Growth was slow. Rev Quartey baptized the first nine converts that year. Their modest meeting hall held only about thirty people. Mrs Linah Boateng Mr Stephen Mensah Mr Samuel Ankrah and others formed the core congregation. Missionary families like the Simms family and Ms Maxine Mosely provided vital support.

The Ghana Baptist Mission officially closed the centre in 1980. Rev E T Quartey was formally appointed pastor of Tesano Baptist Church in 1981. The church continued to grow requiring several expansions. Tesano Baptist Church’s growth wasn’t only in numbers. It produced notable professionals and business leaders. Names like Prof Fred Binka Justice Akamba and Dr & Mrs Sittie stand out. These individuals excel in their fields. They contribute to the church and to Ghana’s economy.

Today Tesano Baptist Church stands as a testament to faith perseverance and community. It’s a place of worship a place of learning a place of growth. It continues to serve the community. It welcomes people from all walks of life. It remains a vibrant beacon of faith in Accra.
