Alright folks let’s talk Terminal B. This is a place of transformation at George Bush Intercontinental Airport. Terminal B is getting a major upgrade.

Did you know that United Airlines is investing $2.5 billion in Terminal B’s redevelopment? This huge project aims to improve passenger experience and increase capacity. The Terminal B lobby is temporarily closing on January 21 2025 and will reopen in 2026.

So what does this mean for you if you are flying through Terminal B? Well during the lobby closure you will need to check in at Terminal C. Signs along Will Clayton Parkway and JFK Blvd will guide you.

The A/B parking garages will remain open. However it is recommended to park in the Terminal C garage. If the garages are full use the EcoPark off-airport parking shuttle. United will also provide a free shuttle between Terminal C and the A/B garages if needed.

After checking in at Terminal C take the Skyway train to Terminal B. United Airlines gates B3 to B31 will stay open during the lobby closure. Arrive two to three hours early to allow for the changes.

Don’t worry pink-vested Terminal B Transformation Ambassadors will be around to help. They will be in Terminals B and C to assist passengers in finding their gates. The United app will also have reminders and information.

What can you expect when Terminal B reopens in 2026? The renovated Terminal B will have ground-level check-in and baggage claim areas. There will be three times more curb frontage. Plus there will be 22 new gates. The concourse will feature the world’s largest United Club. It’s all designed to LEED Silver standards prioritizing sustainability.

This renovation will allow Terminal B to handle about 36 million passengers each year. There will be more space improved retail and food options and a better check-in experience.

Remember that even though Terminal B is getting a facelift the airport itself has a rich history. It originally opened in June 1969 as Houston Intercontinental Airport. In 1997 it was renamed after President George H. W. Bush.
