Has anyone else flown into Terminal B at LaGuardia Airport recently? It’s truly impressive. LaGuardia’s Terminal B wasn’t always this way. In 2019, over 14 million passengers passed through its doors, a far cry from the eight million it was designed to handle back in 1964. This placed immense strain on the aging infrastructure. The Port Authority decided to collaborate with private partners in 2011 to design, build, finance, and manage a completely new Terminal B. This decision was made in response to the rising demand for air travel and New York City’s continued status as a premier tourist destination. The massive $5.1 billion makeover of LaGuardia Airport’s Terminal B is one of the largest transportation infrastructure projects ever undertaken in the United States. The transformation was completed in 2023 and gave New Yorkers a world-class airport terminal. The new LaGuardia Terminal B features a state-of-the-art centralized passenger screening area, an 850,000-square-foot Arrivals & Departures Hall, as well as shopping and dining options inspired by New York City. Commissioned artwork and two elevated glass passenger skybridges connect to satellite concourses. Terminal B received the highest possible rating from Skytrax in 2023, five stars, as well as the title of “World’s Best New Airport Terminal”. What a change! LaGuardia’s Terminal B is now a symbol of innovation and progress in airport design and passenger experience.
