The roar of a jet engine still echoes in my mind. I remember the first time I stepped into Terminal 7.

Terminal 7 at LAX isn’t just a building. It’s a portal to aviation history. It opened in 1961. United Airlines was the first airline to operate from this state-of-the-art facility. The terminal was part of a revolutionary design. It was meant to handle millions of passengers. This plan included a series of terminals and a central parking area. Each terminal had its own satellite building. These were connected by underground tunnels. The original design even featured a train system connecting all terminals. Sadly that was never built due to funding cuts.

Think of the excitement. Imagine sleek jetliners. Picture passengers stepping onto the tarmac. Terminal 7 was designed for the Jet Age. It was meant to streamline travel. Passengers could park close to the terminal. Then they would easily go to their gates via underground tunnels. This was a brilliant concept. The parking area was actually below grade. Passengers didn’t have to change levels. This design was ahead of its time.

But Terminal 7 has seen changes. It underwent a massive $546 million renovation. That was completed in 2019. The renovation included a larger ticketing lobby. It also has improved security checkpoints. Passengers now have comfortable seating and plenty of charging stations. There is even a luxurious United Club lounge. Work continues to connect the terminal to the Automated People Mover. This will further improve transportation to other terminals.

Over the years many airlines have called Terminal 7 home. Currently United Airlines and United Express operate from here. Helicopter service even used the satellite building at one time. The baggage claim area is also undergoing improvements. So please excuse the temporary inconveniences.

Terminal 7 is more than just a place to catch a flight. It’s a piece of aviation history. It’s a testament to innovation and progress. It continues to evolve meeting the needs of modern air travel. As you stand here today you are standing on the shoulders of aviation giants. This is LAX’s Terminal 7. A vital part of Los Angeles’s air travel story.
