Instead of more concrete, the plan calls for raising Conley Street, creating a natural barrier. The parking lot will shrink, giving way to expanded dunes stabilized by dune grass. The long-neglected Pine Neck Creek will be restored, its native vegetation acting as a natural sponge against rising tides. Tenean Beach’s transformation is more than flood control. It’s a recognition that nature often offers the best solutions. Restoring the salt marsh not only protects against storms but also boosts biodiversity and helps clean the water. This project also requires unprecedented cooperation. The city is partnering with the Department of Conservation and Recreation (who own the land), the Department of Transportation, and the MBTA, demonstrating the collaborative spirit needed to face climate change.
