Nestled in the heart of Delhi, the Temple – Hanuman Mandir stands as a testament to centuries of devotion. The Temple – Hanuman Mandir is more than just a structure. It’s a living, breathing entity, pulsating with the energy of countless prayers and whispered hopes. The Temple – Hanuman Mandir is said to be one of five temples built by the Pandavas after their victory in the Kurukshetra War, a tale woven into the very fabric of Delhi’s history. Originally built by Maharaja Man Singh I, the Temple – Hanuman Mandir was later reconstructed in 1724 by Maharaja Jai Singh, around the same time as the Jantar Mantar. One of the most striking features of the Temple – Hanuman Mandir is the crescent moon atop its spire. This unusual addition, a gift from a Mughal Emperor to the poet Tulsidas, is said to have protected the temple from destruction during various invasions. Stepping inside, you’ll be greeted by massive silver-plated doors, intricately engraved with scenes from the Ramayana. The foyer, adorned with paintings of Hanuman and inscribed with verses from the Sundar Kand, leads to the sanctum sanctorum. Here, the self-manifested Bala Hanuman idol, depicting Hanuman as a child, faces south, holding a gada in his left hand and his right hand resting on his chest in veneration of Rama, Lakshmana, and Sita. The Temple – Hanuman Mandir also houses shrines to Shiva, Parvati, Durga, Lakshmi Narayan, Ganesha, and Santoshi Mata, reflecting the multifaceted nature of Hindu devotion. The continuous chanting of “Sri Ram, Jai Ram, Jai Jai Ram,” which began in 1964, has even earned the Temple – Hanuman Mandir a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. The Temple – Hanuman Mandir continues to be a vibrant hub of activity. Tuesdays and Saturdays see a surge of devotees, and the annual Hanuman Jayanti celebration fills the streets with colorful processions and fervent devotion. The Temple – Hanuman Mandir is not just a place of worship. It’s a place where history, mythology, and faith converge, creating an experience that lingers long after you’ve left its sacred grounds.
