Until 1871, people called this hill the Deichberg. That means Dyke Hill. A local sand pit filled with water after a breach. This event led to the name change to Teichberg. Teich means pond in German. A small pond sits west of the summit. Since 1994, this pond has been part of a protected landscape. The area spans 0.5 hectares.
