Behold Teen Murti Bhavan. Its imposing white stone and stucco facade gleam in the Delhi sun. This isn’t just any building. It’s a place steeped in history a testament to India’s journey.

Originally Flagstaff House Teen Murti Bhavan served as the Commander-in-Chief’s residence. Built in 1930 it represented British power in the newly constructed imperial capital. Its imposing size 30 acres speaks volumes. The architect Robert Tor Russell also designed Connaught Place.

After India’s independence in 1947 Teen Murti Bhavan transformed. It became the official residence of Jawaharlal Nehru India’s first Prime Minister. For sixteen years until his death in 1964 he lived and worked within its walls. His presence permeates every room.

Indira Gandhi Nehru’s daughter later converted the residence into a memorial. Today Teen Murti houses the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library. It’s a treasure trove of information about modern Indian history. The library is renowned for its rich collection. The complex also includes the Nehru Planetarium opened in 1984 by Indira Gandhi. Its Megastar projector displays millions of stars.

But the story doesn’t end there. The name Teen Murti itself holds a poignant tale. It refers to a memorial three life-size statues of soldiers. The memorial honors Indian regiments from Jodhpur Hyderabad and Mysore who fought in World War I. They served with distinction in Haifa then part of the Ottoman Empire. Their bravery cemented their place in history.

Hidden within the complex lies another historical gem. The Shikargah or Kushak Mahal a 14th-century hunting lodge. Built by Firoz Shah Tughlaq it stands as a silent witness to centuries past.

Teen Murti Bhavan is more than a building. It’s a living archive of India’s past its struggles its triumphs. It’s a place where history unfolds before your eyes. Each stone each room whispers tales of India’s journey from colonial rule to independence and beyond. Take a moment to reflect on this incredible legacy.
