Founded in 2002, TechBoston Academy, or TBA as it’s affectionately known, offers a college preparatory curriculum for grades 6-12. This isn’t a distant dream, but the reality for the 1,050 students who call TechBoston Academy their academic home. President Obama’s visit wasn’t just a photo opportunity. He came to TechBoston Academy to highlight its success, a school where 93% of the 2010 graduating class went to college, earning over $2 million in scholarships. He saw firsthand how TechBoston Academy empowers students, regardless of background or circumstance. His words that day, “Every child can learn. Every child can succeed. In 2012, 100% of its 10th graders passed the English Language Arts MCAS, outperforming the district average. The vast majority of students are African American or Hispanic, with significant numbers classified as students with disabilities or English language learners.
