In 1315, a name emerged from the mists of time: Tadekenberghe. This, my friends, is the ancestor of Tatenberg. Tatenberg whispers tales of a past intertwined with the Dove Elbe. This tranquil quarter in Hamburg, nestled within the borough of Bergedorf, holds a unique charm. In 2020, its population was a mere 564 souls, making it a hidden gem. Tatenberg shares its borders with Spadenland, Ochsenwerder, Moorfleet, Rothenburgsort, and Allermőhe. Its heart beats along the Dove Elbe, a waterway that has shaped its destiny. Tatenberg boasts a unique political landscape. In the 2011 Hamburg state election, Tatenberg, along with its neighbor Spadenland, stood out. It was one of only two quarters where the CDU triumphed. However, this political tide turned in the 2015 election. The SPD surged forward, claiming victory even in these traditionally CDU strongholds. While Tatenberg lacks the convenience of an S-Bahn or U-Bahn station, it remains connected. Four bus lines weave their way through the quarter, ensuring accessibility. Tatenberg holds a special place in the world of theatre and film. Armand Gatti’s 1964 play, “Die zweite Existenz des Lagers Tatenberg” (The Second Existence of the Tatenberg Camp), thrust the quarter into the spotlight. Gatti further immortalized Tatenberg in his film “L’Enclos” (The Enclosure), weaving its name into the narrative. Beyond its artistic connections, Tatenberg also nurtured notable figures. Henry Bieber (1811-1882), a prominent landowner, served as a dike reeve and chairman of the local council. Hinrich Sillem, a Hamburg councilor who lived around 1615, also held land in Tatenberg. Tatenberg. A name whispered on the wind, a place etched in history. A quarter where the past and present intertwine, creating a story that continues to unfold.
