Here, Taoist philosophy comes alive. The Taoist Sanctuary of San Diego offers a unique space for learning and practice. Founded in 1975, the Taoist Sanctuary of San Diego is a non-profit organization. It focuses on Taijiquan, Qi Gong, Taoist meditation, Taoist philosophy, and Traditional Chinese Healing methods.

Bill Helm directs the Taoist Sanctuary of San Diego. He is a Taoist Priest, a Chinese medical practitioner, and a martial artist. Bill and Allison Helm are senior instructors here. They are 20th-generation indoor disciples of Grandmaster Chen Xiaowang. He is the 19th-generation lineage holder of Chen Family Taijiquan.

In 2011, Bill and Allison were awarded 6th Duan Wei certificates. The Chinese Wushu Association presented these at a historical testing in Chenjiagou. This village is the birthplace of Taijiquan. Bill and Allison are dedicated to preserving Chen family traditions. Their teaching mirrors Grandmaster Chen’s desire to spread Taijiquan globally.

Bill Helm has studied and taught Qi Gong for many years. He teaches seasonally appropriate exercises at the Taoist Sanctuary of San Diego. The Taoist Sanctuary of San Diego welcomes everyone.

The Taoist Sanctuary of San Diego offers classes in Chen style Taijiquan and Qi Gong. Taijiquan classes improve health and fitness. Benefits include lower blood pressure, improved respiratory function, and increased strength. Bill and Allison Helm make classes fun and challenging.

New students can learn the original form Laojia Yi Lu. Students can progress to weapons and push hands. Qi Gong classes are ongoing with varied content. Students can learn Healing Sounds and Frolics of the Five Animals.

The main curriculum is the Chen Family style Taijiquan. Grandmaster Chen Xiaowang and the Chen family teach it. Qi Gong includes Tao Tan Pai, Yin Fu Bagua, and Hua To’s Frolics of the Five Animals. Chen style standing post and silk reeling exercises are also taught here.

Classes begin with relaxation and correct alignment. Students learn the Laojia yilu over nine months. Once the form is learned, students work on structure and internal aspects. Partner work develops sensitivity. Weapon forms can be introduced. Classes then focus on power development.

Traditional Taijiquan does not use belts. Practice is considered lifelong. Improvement is always possible at the Taoist Sanctuary of San Diego.

The Taoist Sanctuary of San Diego runs on sessions. New Taijiquan students are welcome throughout the term. Qi Gong classes are also ongoing. You can start anytime.
