Little did I know, this mishap would lead to an unexpected detour, landing me right here, in Tangstedt, a charming village nestled near Hamburg, but a world away from the airport chaos. Tangstedt, not to be confused with its smaller namesake in Pinneberg, is a municipality in the Stormarn district of Schleswig-Holstein. Located approximately 22 kilometers northeast of Hamburg, Tangstedt boasts a rich history and tranquil atmosphere. While waiting for my luggage, a friendly local told me about Gut Wulksfelde, a historic farm dating back to the 14th century. Imagine, a farm that has served as a brickyard, a glassworks, and even a brewery, before becoming the thriving organic farm it is today. Intrigued, I hopped on a bus – part of Tangstedt’s extensive public transport network – and headed out to explore. I strolled along the tree-lined Beekmoorweg, admiring the quaint old milking house, a relic of a simpler time. Later, I found myself at the Rathausplatz, picturing the lively Christmas market that fills the square each December. Tangstedt may not be a bustling tourist hub, but its quiet charm and rich history offer a unique escape. Who knew lost luggage could lead to such a delightful discovery? This peaceful village, with its blend of history and nature, proved to be a perfect starting point for my German adventure.
