What secrets do these walls hold from nights filled with tango rhythms? This is Tangopalatset. It was once a vibrant hub for music and dance in Malmö. Now, it’s a residential building. But its story is etched into the very fabric of this place.

Tangopalatset opened its doors in 2005. It quickly became a popular spot. It was located in the old Filadelfiakyrkan building. The address is Amiralsgatan 47.

The building dates back to 1935. Carl-Axel Stoltz and Birger Linderoth designed it. It was originally built for the Filadelfiakyrkan.

In 1990, the Filadelfia and Elim congregations merged. They formed the Malmö Pentecostal Church. In 1994, they moved their operations to Pingstkyrkan Europaporten.

Tangoakademin and some financiers bought the building in 2004. This included seventeen apartments. After renovations, the new venue opened in December 2005. It was named Tangopalatset.

Tangoakademin was based here. The premises were also rented out. Other dance activities used the space. Clubs and concerts also happened here. Tangopalatset was a diverse cultural venue.

Imagine the sounds that once filled this space. The passionate music. The rhythmic steps of tango dancers. The laughter and chatter of people enjoying a night out.

But Tangopalatset’s time as a cultural hotspot was limited. In 2016, the building was sold. In autumn 2017, renovations began. The goal was to convert the space into apartments.

By early 2019, the transformation was complete. The building became a residential complex. The tenant-owner association is called Amiralen 47.

The spirit of Tangopalatset may live on. It lives on in the memories of those who danced and celebrated here. Though its physical form has changed, its legacy remains.

So, as we stand here, remember the music and dance. Remember the vibrant energy that once pulsed through these walls. Tangopalatset may be gone. It is not forgotten. It’s a reminder that even buildings can have stories to tell.
