Decree No. 130/2003/NĐ-CP, ever heard of it? It may not sound exciting. But it birthed Tan Phu District in Ho Chi Minh City. Tan Phu District is one of the 16 districts that make up this dynamic city.

Tan Phu’s story began about 50 years ago. It was then a commune within Tan Binh District. This was part of Gia Dinh. Fast forward to November 5, 2003. The Vietnamese government reshaped the area. They carved Tan Phu District out of Tan Binh District. This also redefined some ward boundaries.

The decree was clear. Tan Phu District was established using the entire natural area and population. It started with 1,606.98 hectares. The population was 310,876. Eleven new wards sprang up. These included Tan Son Nhi and Tay Thanh. There were also Son Ky and Tan Quy. Completing the list were Tan Thanh, Phu Tho, and Phu Thanh.
