“Ever dreamt of stepping into a land where history whispers on the breeze?” Today, we find ourselves in Tan An Hoi Commune a place that’s more than just a dot on the map. Tan An Hoi Commune is one of the twenty communes within the Cu Chi District. This district is located in Ho Chi Minh City.

Let’s journey back to a time when Cu Chi was part of Binh Duong Province during the Nguyen Dynasty. It fell under the jurisdiction of Tan Binh District and Phien An Precinct. Fast forward to 1841. Cu Chi became part of Binh Long District, Tan Binh Precinct, Gia Dinh Province. In 1911, it shifted again to Hoc Mon District, Gia Dinh Province.

A significant change occurred on April 29, 1957. The Saigon government issued Decree No. 138-BNV-HC-ND. This decree established Cu Chi District by separating three communes. They were Long Tuy Thuong, Long Tuy Trung, and Long Tuy Ha. These were taken from Gia Dinh Province to form Cu Chi District in Binh Duong Province.

But the story doesn’t end there. In 1963, Cu Chi District was divided in two. One half retained the name Cu Chi District. It became part of Hau Nghia Province. The other half was named Phu Hoa District. It became part of Binh Duong Province.

Then, in August 1968, war led to further division. Cu Chi was split into Nam Chi and Bac Chi. After April 30, 1975, a new chapter began. The revolutionary government merged Cu Chi District of Hau Nghia Province with Phu Hoa District of Binh Duong Province. This formed the Cu Chi District we know today as part of Ho Chi Minh City.

Tan An Hoi Commune covers an area of 30.24 square kilometers. As of 2021, it was home to 35327 people. Imagine the lives unfolding here the stories interweaving through generations.

Cu Chi District is known for its agriculture. Its fertile land is perfect for growing crops. Cu Chi is located in a transition zone. It bridges the southeastern mountains and the Mekong Delta lowlands. The elevation gradually decreases from northwest to southeast and northeast to southwest. The average height above sea level ranges from 8 to 10 meters.

Tan An Hoi offers more than just a glimpse into history. It provides a sense of place. It connects us to the people who shaped this land. It also reminds us of the ever changing administrative landscape.
