Curious how a rubber estate transformed into a bustling township? Let me tell you the story of Taman Kinrara. This area was once known as the Kinrara Estate. It was primarily a rubber plantation.
In 1991, Island & Peninsular Berhad, under Perumahan Kinrara Berhad, began developing the area. At that time, the main route was Jalan Puchong. It led to the Kinrara Army Camp road. The developers constructed low-cost terrace houses. These were in Bandar Kinrara 1 or BK 1. Then, they built double-storey terraces in Bandar Kinrara 2 or BK 2.
The Bukit Jalil Highway, also known as Federal Route 217, aided Taman Kinrara’s expansion. The highway allowed development on both sides. An underpass connected these two sides.
Taman Kinrara is now divided into sections BK 1 through BK 9. Sections BK 1 to 3 are on the northern side of the Bukit Jalil Highway. They head towards Puchong. Sections BK 4 to 9 are on the southern side.
Bandar Kinrara has many facilities for its residents and visitors. A Giant shopping complex opened in 2008. This provides residents with shopping and convenience. The Kinrara Academy Oval is an international cricket ground. It was completed in 2003.
A youth center offers futsal arenas and badminton courts. The Ayer Hitam Forest Reserve provides a natural green space. The government has re-gazetted it as a permanent reserve.
The IPD Serdang Police District Headquarters is in Bandar Kinrara 5. Nearby is the Kinrara Golf Club. This 18-hole golf course has resorts, tennis courts, and a swimming pool. It also has a fitness center and hotel rooms.
Masjid Al-Ehsan serves as the main mosque in BK 5. The Sri Maha Mariamman Hindu Temple is in BK 1. Mongkon Chakawan is a Thai Buddhist Temple in BK 2/7.
Transportation has improved significantly in Taman Kinrara. Buses and rail transport serve the township. The 4 LRT Sri Petaling Line passes through Bandar Kinrara. Residents of BK 1 and BK 9 can use the Alam Sutera station. It is located beside the industrial area of Bandar Kinrara 1. Residents of BK 2 to BK 8 can use the Kinrara BK 5 station. Its entrances are near SMK Seksyen 1 Bandar Kinrara secondary school.
Taman Kinrara offers various schools. These include SK Seksyen 1 Bandar Kinrara and SK Seksyen 2 Bandar Kinrara. Also there are SJK T Kinrara and SJK C Yak Chee. The secondary schools are SMK Seksyen 1 Bandar Kinrara, SMK Seksyen 3 Bandar Kinrara and SMK Seksyen 4 Bandar Kinrara.
Taman Kinrara is accessible via several major expressways. These include the Damansara–Puchong Expressway LDP and the Kuala Lumpur Middle Ring Road 2 MRR2. Others are the New Klang Valley Expressway NKVE and the New Pantai Expressway NPE. It is 19 km to Kuala Lumpur City Centre and 7–15 km to Subang Jaya and Petaling Jaya.
The LRT provides convenient access. The Kinrara BK5 station and Alam Sutera station serve the area. Future expressways will further enhance connectivity.
From a rubber estate to a thriving township. Taman Kinrara exemplifies modern development. Its growth reflects careful planning. It also shows the integration of residential, commercial, and recreational spaces.
