Is it possible for a place of worship to be a beacon of both tradition and modernity? Here at the Taipei Cultural Mosque, the answer is a resounding yes. The Taipei Cultural Mosque stands as a testament to the enduring presence of Islam in Taiwan. This mosque, the third to be erected in Taiwan, holds a special place in the hearts of the local Muslim community. The original Taipei Cultural Mosque, a humble Japanese-style house, was established in 1950 by a visionary named Xiao Yongtai, also known as Akhond Hsiao. His dream was not just to create a place of worship but a dynamic center for Islamic culture. Sadly, the mosque had to be moved from its original location on Roosevelt Road due to urban planning. However, what rose in its place near Xinhai Road was even more extraordinary. The new Taipei Cultural Mosque, completed in 1984, is a five-story architectural masterpiece. Designed by Huang Mo-chun, it seamlessly blends traditional Islamic aesthetics with modern architectural principles. But the mosque is more than just a beautiful building. It’s a vibrant hub, the heart of the Chinese Muslim Youth League and home to the Taiwan Halal Integrity Development Association. The Taipei Cultural Mosque is a testament to the power of faith, community, and the beauty of cultural exchange.
