Taereung International Skating Rink stands as one of only two indoor long-track skating facilities in South Korea. It is the most actively used. The other, Gangneung Oval, was completed in 2017. It was built for the 2018 Winter Olympics. There are plans to convert it into a multi-sports and convention center.
Here at Taereung International Skating Rink, you are standing on hallowed ground for Korean speed skating. Many national champions have trained here. This rink is a key part of the Korea National Training Center. Most other teams have moved to Jincheon. They include the short track and ice hockey teams.

In 1965, South Korea started building a national training center. It was their version of Sportcentrum Papendal. In February 1971, they opened a new outdoor artificial ice rink. Twenty-five years later, it closed for renovations. In early 2000, the covered skating hall opened. It has 2,700 seats.
