The heart of the Syngrou Grove is its 700-acre forest, a true “oasis” of unspoiled beauty. This is one of the last natural forests in Athens. It is a sanctuary for Aleppo pines and cypress trees. Amidst these majestic trees, you’ll also find vibrant meadows, olive groves, fruit orchards, and a surprising array of rare plants. Imagine strolling through the forest in December and stumbling upon delicate wild orchids. The Syngrou Grove isn’t just a place for quiet contemplation. It’s also a haven for sports enthusiasts. Numerous trails wind through the forest, perfect for jogging, rollerblading, and cycling. A 6 km perimeter trail beckons those seeking a longer adventure. A football pitch and playground provide spaces for recreation. There are also peaceful spots ideal for picnics and relaxation. Syngrou Grove also holds architectural and cultural gems. The chapel of St. Andrew, a unique Orthodox gothic-style temple designed by Ernst Ziller, graces the estate. Nearby stands the impressive Syngrou family villa, also a Ziller creation. A full-length statue of Andreas Syngros stands proudly in front of the villa. The Syngrou Grove continues to fulfill its educational mission. The Institute of Agricultural Sciences, which has managed the estate since 1988, organizes educational activities, maintains greenhouses, olive groves, vineyards, and apiaries. The estate even houses a Beekeeping Museum, the only one of its kind in Greece. The legacy of Ifigenia Mavrokordatou-Syngrou lives on. The Syngrou Grove serves as a vibrant hub for the community, hosting concerts and theatrical performances in its open-air theater. The National School of Anavryta, known for its academic excellence, also calls the estate home.
