“A grand slam at Sylmar Park!” a young boy shouted, echoing across the fields. Sylmar Park, a sprawling 19-acre haven, has been serving the Sylmar community for decades. It’s more than just green space; it’s a hub of activity, a place where memories are made. Originally, Sylmar Park boasted four baseball diamonds, two of which were lighted for evening games. A football field and outdoor basketball court provided even more opportunities for athletic pursuits. Children could enjoy the designated play area, while adults could utilize the tennis courts. The park even featured a 400-seat auditorium for community events and performances. Over time, Sylmar Park continued to evolve to meet the community’s needs. A new, full-size gymnasium was added, becoming home to numerous youth and adult basketball teams. The park became so popular that it was selected as part of a pilot year-round day camp program. This was designed to provide a safe and engaging environment for children on vacation from school, particularly due to the school district’s shift to a year-round schedule. Today, Sylmar Park still offers a wide range of amenities. You’ll find baseball diamonds, basketball courts, an outdoor fitness area, a pool, and tennis courts. There are grassy areas perfect for picnics, a playground, and a recreation center complete with a gym and community rooms. So, whether you’re looking to catch a baseball game, shoot some hoops, or simply relax and enjoy the outdoors, Sylmar Park has something for everyone.
