Sydenham College

Established in 1913, Sydenham College stands as a testament to a rich history. Sydenham College initially operated from Elphinstone College. It later found a home at Churchgate. This institution was the first to offer commerce education in Asia. Lord Sydenham, the then-governor of Bombay, inspired the college’s name. His memorial fund generously contributed to the construction of the college. Imagine attending classes in a building funded by a governor’s legacy. Sydenham College boasts a distinguished list of notable alumni. From business giants like Akbar Al Baker and Deepak Parekh to Bollywood stars like Hrithik Roshan and Juhi Chawla, Sydenham’s influence spans diverse fields. Even political figures like Omar Abdullah and Milind Deora walked these halls. The college has a unique motto, “Labor Omnia Vincit” in Latin and “Samudyogo hi vishvajita” in Sanskrit. Both translate to the powerful message that hard work leads to success. In 1988, the Indian Post Office issued a commemorative stamp in honor of the college’s seventy-fifth anniversary.
