Life within these walls wasn’t all feasts and finery. The constable, the Archbishop’s right-hand man, had the power to hold court and even hand down death sentences. There’s a chilling thought: a gallows standing just outside the town on Brackenstown Road, a grim reminder of the constable’s authority. Over the centuries, Swords Castle has seen it all: sieges, rebellions, even a brief occupation by Dutch Protestants.
