Let’s dive into what makes this club so special. The WSAP Hamburg is more than just a sports club. It is a community of about 500 members of all ages. These members share a passion. That passion is watersports.

Founded in 1920, the Sportvereinigung Polizei Hamburg has a rich history. Initially, only police officers could join. Today, membership is open to everyone. The WSAP Hamburg is its watersports division.

Here at WSAP Hamburg, water sports are more than just a hobby. They are a way of life. Members participate in water hiking and competitive sports. The club focuses on rowing, canoeing, and dragon boat racing.

Imagine gliding across the Alster in a sleek single scull. Or picture yourself paddling through Hamburg’s canals. All of this is possible here. From single-person kayaks to dragon boats seating 22, WSAP offers it all.

The WSAP Hamburg has seen its share of glory. Iris Völkner, a member, won a bronze medal at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. She competed in the “2 without” rowing event. In Kanupolo, the WSAP team dominated. They won the German championship multiple times. They won in 1928, 1929, 1970, 1971, and 1976.

Even crossing oceans is within the realm of possibility. In 2019/20, four WSAP women participated in the Atlantic Challenge. They rowed across the Atlantic. They finished 17th out of 35 boats. More impressively, they were the top-ranking women’s boat. This team, RowHHome, was the first German team to achieve this feat. The team consisted of Catharina Streit, Meike Ramuschkat, Steffi Kluge, and Timna Bicker.

WSAP Hamburg hosts the IseCup, a popular dragon boat race. This event brings together athletes and enthusiasts. It strengthens the community. It promotes the spirit of watersports.
