This wasn’t just any surau. It was the heart of a growing community. Its members yearned for a larger more beautiful place of worship. In 1983 Surau Al Mardhiah moved to its present location. The dream of a new building began to take shape.
The year 1997 marked the start of an ambitious fundraising effort. Dedicated congregants worked tirelessly to collect donations. Their dedication paved the way for the surau’s transformation.
Construction finally began in 2002. While the new building took shape congregants worshipped in a temporary surau nearby. Their unwavering faith fueled their perseverance.
The new Surau Al Mardhiah was completed in 2003. It cost RM 1 070 000.00. This impressive sum was raised entirely through the generosity of the community. A testament to the power of collective faith.
The building itself is a marvel of engineering. Its sturdy steel frame is clad in bricks plaster and glass. It boasts a 26-meter-high minaret. The golden dome echoes the design of the Dome of the Rock.
In 2009 Surau Al Mardhiah achieved a significant milestone. It was granted permission to hold Friday prayers. This marked its elevation to a full-fledged mosque. The official upgrade to Masjid Al Mardhiah occurred in 2010.
Today Masjid Al Mardhiah stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of its community. It covers 1980 square meters. The main prayer hall alone measures 483 square meters. It can accommodate 1000 worshippers. The mosque also oversees several smaller Suraus and Musollas in the surrounding areas.
