Taman Seri Gombak, the surrounding neighborhood, was just starting to fill with families. The Muslim community needed a place to worship. They pooled their resources and rented a house to serve as a temporary surau. This was just the beginning for Surau Al Ittifaqiah. For about a year, the community diligently raised funds. They managed to gather RM43,000. This allowed them to build a proper surau. They chose a plot of land at the end of Jalan SG 1/26. The newly built Surau Al Ittifaqiah became a focal point for prayer and community gatherings. In 1986, Surau Al Ittifaqiah reached a new milestone. It received permission from the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) to hold Friday prayers. It was officially upgraded to a mosque and became Masjid Al-Ittifaqiah. Even with the construction of a newer mosque nearby, Masjid Al-Ittifaqiah remains important. It continues to serve the residents of its designated zone. This zone encompasses several neighborhoods, including Phases 1 and 10 of Taman Sri Gombak. It also includes Taman Bolton, Wira Damai, Gombak Permai, Gombak Indah, Flat Sri Rampal, and Sunway Batu Caves. Surau Al Ittifaqiah’s story is a testament to community spirit and devotion.
