Abu Sa’id al-Khudri was an inhabitant of Medina. He was an early ally of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. He was one of the younger “companions of the prophet”. Abu Sa’id al-Khudri was too young to fight at the Battle of Uhud in 625. His father Malik ibn Sinan fell there. He participated in subsequent campaigns.
Abu Sa’id al-Khudri traveled to Syria once. He visited the Umayyad caliph Mu’awiya. He resided in Medina all his life. Later, he participated with his fellow Medinans. They defended their city against the Umayyad army at the Battle of al-Harrah in 64/683.
Abu Sa’id al-Khudri is said to have died in 63/682, 64/683, 65/684, or 74/693. Abu Sa’id is one of the narrators of hadith. His narrations are most frequently quoted. By one count, he has 1170 narrations. This makes him the seventh most prolific Companion. He is important in the transmission of the hadith.
