Surasak Montree School opened its gates in May 1968. It initially welcomed around 600 students. Many were not even from army families. The school started with grades 7-9. Imagine those first classes. Eleven rooms for grade 7 with 40 students each. Only two rooms each for grades 8 and 9. Crowded but vibrant classrooms no doubt.

In 1969 the school expanded to grades 5-10. The following year it included kindergarten through 11th grade. This expansion reflects the growing demand for quality education in Bangkok. In 1971 the founders established the Children’s Army Commercial College. It began with an advertising program. They later added Electrical Mechanics Radio Technician and Mechanics programs. The college eventually became the Children’s Army Vocational Training School.

On March 18 1974 the Ministry of Education took over. The school was split into two locations. Rajamangala University of Technology Tawan-ok and Surasak Montree School were born. Surasak Montree School kept the name of the first Commander in Chief of the Royal Thai Army.

Today Surasak Montree School shines. It offers Gifted Education Programs and a Normal Program. Its Senior High School has seven specialized programs. Gifted Education Intensive English Science-Math English-Math English-French English-German English-Chinese and Thai-Social are available. The school colors are yellow and blue. Yellow represents manner and merit. Blue symbolizes bravery intelligence and forbearance.

The school’s motto is Save Hard-working Endure Harmonize with Discipline. The symbol is a crown scepter sword and Cassia javanica flowers. The Cassia javanica is also the school tree. The school flower is Cassia fistula the Golden Shower tree.

Surasak Montree School is famous for its athletic teams. The football futsal team has won numerous national competitions. The marching band is equally renowned. It has won numerous national awards and even international acclaim at the World Music Contest in Kerkrade Netherlands. Their achievements are impressive. Their legacy continues to inspire.
